India’s gay sex ban was a relic of the British Empire — but it’s still in place in dozens of ex-colonies

Maybe people here in the US should take a little time to be thankful for the rights that we do have.  There is a ways to go, but human rights in this country have come a long ways as we continue to strive toward freedom and equal opportunity for all.  Despite Trump and all of our problems, its a great time to be alive.

In seven former island colonies in the eastern Caribbean — including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and Grenada — similar laws remain in force. According to Human Rights Watch, while few people have faced criminal prosecutions, the laws “give social and legal sanction for discrimination, violence, stigma, and prejudice against LGBT individuals.”
